Frequently Asked Questions
Sign up directly at trueplate.ai — no invitation needed. Enter your email and a password, confirm the verification link we email you, then the onboarding wizard walks you through your restaurant profile, branding, hours, and (on Ultra) ordering. Account creation is fully self-serve and instant; you don't need to email us to get set up.
Yes. After signing up you'll get a verification email — clicking the link activates your account. This is a one-time step and keeps the platform secure. If it doesn't arrive within a few minutes, check spam or request a new link from the login screen.
To capture 3D dishes you need an iPhone running iOS 26.1 or later; an iPhone with LiDAR (12 Pro and later Pro models) gives the best quality but isn't required. Your guests need nothing special — any modern phone browser views the AR menu.
Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial with full features and no charge until it ends. You can switch plans or cancel anytime during the trial.
Open the TruePlate app, select the menu item, and tap Capture. The guided flow has you walk slowly around the plate for a couple of minutes; photogrammetry then turns those frames into a photoreal 3D model automatically — no studio, scanner, or 3D artist needed.
Yes. Models are captured with real-world dimensions and anchor to the guest's table at true scale, so a 26 cm plate appears as a 26 cm plate. That accuracy is what makes guests confident ordering.
We generate USDZ for iOS AR Quick Look and GLB for web viewing and Android Scene Viewer. Both are produced automatically from a single capture — you never deal with the files directly.
Most dishes finish processing within a few minutes of uploading the capture. You'll see the item flip to 'ready' in your dashboard when its 3D model and QR code are live.
No. TruePlate runs on web AR — scanning the QR opens the menu in the browser, and tapping a dish launches AR Quick Look on iPhone or Scene Viewer on Android. Desktop visitors get an interactive 3D viewer instead.
TruePlate generates a QR code for your menu (and for individual dishes). Print them on table tents, menus, or posters; when a guest scans, they land on your branded AR menu. You can download and re-print QR codes anytime from the dashboard.
Yes — Ultra supports menus in up to 10 languages. Guests see the menu in their device language when a translation is available, and you control which languages are published.
On the Ultra plan, yes. Guests order from QR table sessions or place pickup orders ahead, pay online by card, and tickets land in your kitchen instantly — with order analytics and dedicated server seats included.
Card payments are processed securely by Stripe — Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and other major cards, plus device wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay where available. You can also let guests choose to pay with cash or card at the table instead of online.
No. You decide per restaurant whether to accept online card payments, cash, and/or card at the table. Online payment needs a connected Stripe account; cash and pay-at-table work without one.
Orders appear in real time on your live orders board, organised by table session or pickup, so kitchen and floor staff see new tickets the moment they're placed.
Connect a Stripe Express account from Settings (or during onboarding). When a guest pays, the funds go to your own Stripe account and Stripe pays out to your bank on its normal schedule. TruePlate never holds your money — it flows directly to you, minus fees.
Stripe Express is the payout account that lets your restaurant accept card payments and receive money. You set it up through a short Stripe-hosted onboarding (business details + bank account). It's required for online payments; without it you can still take cash or card-at-table.
Choose the country where your business is registered and banks — that's set during the Stripe connection step. Important: a Stripe account's country is fixed when the account is created and cannot be changed afterward. If you pick the wrong one, disconnect and reconnect a fresh account in the correct country.
TruePlate takes a small platform fee on each online order (the rate depends on your plan), on top of Stripe's standard card-processing fee. Both are deducted automatically — your Stripe dashboard shows each payment with the Stripe fee and the application fee listed separately.
Open your Stripe Express dashboard from the 'Open Stripe dashboard' link in Settings — there you can view payouts, update your bank account, and download tax documents. Your TruePlate subscription invoices are managed separately in the billing portal.
Geofencing confirms a guest is physically at your restaurant before they can place a table order. When a guest opens a table session, we do a one-time location check against the radius you set around your venue. This stops people ordering to your kitchen from off-site and keeps table orders genuine.
During onboarding (and anytime in Settings) you place your restaurant on a map and set a geofence radius in metres. Pick a radius that covers your dining area plus a little margin for GPS drift — typically 50–150 m depending on your building.
They can move closer to the venue and retry, or your staff can take the order directly. Pickup orders are not geofenced — guests can place those from anywhere. If guests at your tables are frequently blocked, widen your geofence radius slightly in Settings.
No ongoing tracking. We check a guest's location once, at the moment they start a table order, only to confirm they're on-site — it isn't stored for tracking or marketing. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Starter, Pro, and Ultra, billed monthly or yearly in euro via Stripe after your 14-day trial. Yearly billing includes two months free. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time.
Yes. The billing portal (opened from your dashboard) lets you update your payment method, download invoices, and cancel — all self-serve through Stripe's secure portal.
Pro includes up to 3 restaurants and Ultra up to 10, each with its own menu, QR codes, analytics, and manager seats. Need more locations than your plan includes? Add extra restaurants any time for €25/mo each.
You provide the dishes and photos; by generating models through TruePlate you grant us a licence to use them as described in our Privacy Policy and Terms. See those pages for the full details on content ownership and usage rights.
Your data is stored on Amazon Web Services in the European Union, encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. Card details are handled by Stripe and never touch our servers, and access to your account data is controlled and audited.
Email privacy@trueplate.ai to request deletion of your account and associated personal data; we process requests within 30 days in line with GDPR. Note that published menu pages go offline and certain data may be retained where the law requires.
