This Privacy Policy describes how TruePlate ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile application and website ("TruePlate" or the "Service").

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Account Information: When you sign up, we collect your email address and the password you choose (stored only as a secure, salted hash). We email you a verification link, which you must confirm before your account is activated.
  • Restaurant Information: Names, logos, branding colors, opening hours, location, and other details you provide about your restaurant(s).
  • Menu Item Data: Names, descriptions, prices, allergens, and other menu item details you enter.
  • Captured Images and 3D Models: Photos and 3D scans you capture of menu items using the App.
  • Payment Information: When you subscribe — or, on the Ultra plan, when your diners pay for an order — card details are entered directly with our payment processor, Stripe. We never receive or store full card numbers; we retain only limited details such as card brand, last four digits, and payment status.
  • Diner Order Information: For online and pickup orders, we process the order contents and any contact details (such as a name, phone number, or email) the guest provides to receive their order or receipt.
  • Location Information:For Ultra table ordering, when a guest begins an order we perform a one-time check of their device location to confirm they are within the geofence radius you set around your restaurant. This is used only to authorize the order — we do not track guests' location over time.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Device Information: Device model, operating system version, and unique device identifiers.
  • Usage Data: Information about how you use the Service, including features accessed and actions taken.
  • Analytics Events: Page views, AR interactions, and error reports for quality improvement.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the TruePlate service
  • Process and store your 3D menu item captures
  • Generate QR codes and public viewer pages for your menu items
  • Authenticate your account and secure your data
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve the Service
  • Respond to your requests and provide customer support

3D Model Ownership and Rights

By using TruePlate to capture and generate 3D models of menu items, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • License Grant: You grant TruePlate a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable license to use, reproduce, modify, display, distribute, and create derivative works from any 3D models, images, and content generated through the Service.
  • Usage Rights: TruePlate may use generated 3D models for any purpose, including but not limited to: improving our services, training machine learning models, marketing materials, and sublicensing to third parties.
  • No Compensation:You are not entitled to any compensation for TruePlate's use of content generated through the Service.
  • Your Responsibility: You represent that you have the right to capture and share images of the menu items you scan, and that doing so does not violate any third-party rights.

How We Share Your Information

Public Information

When you publish a menu item, its name, description, price, 3D model, and associated restaurant branding become publicly accessible via the generated web link.

Service Providers

We may share information with third-party service providers that help us operate the Service, including:

  • Cloud hosting and encrypted storage (Amazon Web Services, in the EU)
  • Payment processing (Stripe) — for subscription billing and, on Ultra, processing your diners' card payments and paying out to your connected account
  • Transactional email delivery (Postmark) — for verification, password reset, receipts, and billing notices
  • Content delivery networks
  • Analytics and error monitoring, to maintain and improve the Service

Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required by law or in response to valid legal requests.

Data Storage and Security

  • Your data is stored on secure servers provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the European Union.
  • We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit (HTTPS/TLS).
  • 3D models and images are stored in encrypted cloud storage.
  • We implement access controls to protect your account data.

Your Rights Under GDPR

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the following rights:

  • Right of Access: You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to Rectification: You can request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Right to Erasure: You can request that we delete your personal data in certain circumstances.
  • Right to Restrict Processing: You can request that we limit how we use your data.
  • Right to Data Portability: You can request a copy of your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Right to Object: You can object to our processing of your personal data.
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.

Camera and Biometric Access

Camera

TruePlate requires camera access to capture 3D scans of menu items. Camera data is processed on your device and uploaded only when you choose to save a capture.

Face ID

TruePlate uses Face ID for convenient and secure authentication. Biometric data is processed entirely on your device by Apple's Secure Enclave and is never transmitted to our servers.

Photo Library

TruePlate requests access to save QR codes to your photo library. We do not access or read other photos in your library.

Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Service. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.

3D models and associated content may be retained indefinitely in accordance with our license rights described above.

Children's Privacy

TruePlate is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
